The Whitley County Lady Colonels had hopes of making some noise in this week’s Class 2A, Section 7 Tournament, but a late goal by Perry Central gave the Lady Commodores a 3-2 victory.
The Lady Colonels (2-2) won’t be back in action until next Monday when they travel to play McCreary Central.
“It was a physical game,” Whitley County coach Kelly Sawyers said. “We had several opportunities and so did they. They converted, we did not. With 16 minutes left to play Autumn went down due to an ankle injury, they capitalized and put it in the net two minutes after.”
Whitley County built a 1-0 advantage just two minutes into the game after a goal by Autumn Sawyers.
Perry Central managed to score the final two goals of the first half to take a 2-1 edge at halftime.
Sawyers added another goal with 26:04 remaining in the second half before The Lady Commodores sealed the win for good with a goal at the 65-minute mark.
