Williamsburg pulls out slim 62-61 win over McCreary Central

WILLIAMSBURG — With a tough slate on the horizon, Anthony Hibbard is wanting his Williamsburg Yellow Jackets to gain as much as experience this week, so they can be prepared of what’s waiting.

The Yellow Jackets gained confidence, and more momentum on Tuesday by picking up a slim 62-61 win over McCreary Central.

Led Andrew Smith’s 21 points, and Henry Bowling’s 20-point scoring effort, Williamsburg managed to hold on for the win to improve to 4-2.

“Overall, tonight was a really good experience for our guys,” Hibbard said. “We led most of the game, but McCreary never went away. They challenged us and kept fighting. They were able to put our guys in situations that are difficult to simulate in practice. Even though it is hard and frustrating, it is exactly what we need to grow and develop.

“We have a tough slate of games in front of us and we are going to be challenged,” he added. “Friday, we are at Corbin. Next week, we are participating the Smokey Mountain Christmas Classic.”

Cooper Prewitt added nine points in the win for the Yellow Jackets while Connor Saylor finished with eight points.
