Redhounds surpass century mark during season-opening win over Cordia

CORBIN — Tony Pietrowski’s Corbin Redhounds ripped off their season in fine fashion on Wednesday, treating the home crowd to a 119-31 dominating win over outmanned Cordia.

Thirteen players scored for Corbin (1-0), and five of those finished in double figures.

Zander Curry led the Redhounds with 17 points while 15 of those came in the first quarter. Ryder Akins, and Eli Pietrowski both finished with 16 points apiece while Conner Middleton chipped in 15 points, and Carter added 13 points.

“Good start to the season,” Pietrowski said. “Allowed us to get our game legs under us, work on pregame routine, substitution pattern and get a taste of live action.

“Proud of our kids,” he added. “Remained unselfish and played hard. We have had a long stretch of practices, so I’m sure our guys were ready to compete against someone else. Excited about our season. We have a chance to be really good and accomplish some great things.”

Corbin led 35-8 at the end of the first quarter, and 72-15 at halftime.

The Redhounds reached the 100-point mark in the third quarter while taking a 103-18 cushion into the final period of play.

Pietrowski’s squad will be back in action Friday at home against Williamsburg.

“We have to come in with a good focus on Friday,” he said. “It’s a district seed game and it’s important we play with a high level of intensity and focus.”
