Balanced scoring leads to Corbin’s 68-30 win over Williamsburg

CORBIN — Isaac Wilson’s Corbin Lady Redhounds remained unbeaten after picking up their first 50th District victory of the season with a 68-30 win over Williamsburg.

The Lady Redhounds are now 5-0 and 1-0 in district play, and will switch their focus to Saturday’s matchup against West Jessamine.

“Always good to get a win within the district,” Wilson said. “Seeding for the district tournament is important and I feel we came out focused tonight.”

Corbin had nine players score in the win as Kylie Clem’s 17-point scoring average led the way. She also hit three 3-pointers. Kallie Housley added 11 points and three 3-pointers while Darcie Anderson scored 10 points, and hit two 3-pointers. Bailey Stewart, Reagan Walker, and Mahayla Jordan each scored six points apiece.

“Offensively, the basketball is being shared and we are playing some good defense to mix in with that,” Wilson said. “We want to continue to build on this as the season progresses. We understand each game is an opportunity for us to improve as a team and we will now turn our focus to West Jessamine on a short turnaround. We will need to be ready to play and I’m excited to see how we respond in a back to back day setting.”

Allie Wilson led Williamsburg (1-4) in scoring with 17 points while Hannah Creekmore added five points.

“After facing some obstacles with sickness and injuries in the last 24 hours we have had almost all in attendance for a practice and a game for the first time this season,” Williamsburg coach Melissa Douglas said. “Overall, I’m very pleased with the effort and energy tonight. Corbin is a tough, well established team with some of the top players in the region. Our focus was to show up compete and improve our game. We did just that Allie was at an advantage with being inside and she ended with 17 points.

“Overall, each player had a key role,” she added. “We struggled with their man to man defense but we survived. Being so early on the season we are just going to take a game at a time. I look for more of our players to be double digits by mid season.”
