WILLIAMSBURG — Sean Pigman’s Whitley County Lady Colonels got back to their win ways on Friday with a 68-43 road win over Barbourville.
Whitley County (4-2) received a 20-point scoring effort from Aubree Clemons while Jonna Rice added 14 points, Maddy Hopkins finished with 13 points, and Amber Brown finished with 10 points.
The two teams were locked in a battle entering the second quarter with the Lady Colonels holding a slim 16-15 lead before Whitley County outscored the Lady Tigers (3-4), 12-0, in the second quarter, and 23-13, in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.
“Good to get a tough-fought win on the road,” Pigman said. “Coach Shields does a good job with her bunch. They are playing really hard and competing.
“We did a better job getting the ball to Aubree early in each half,” he added. “Autumn did a good job defensively. Felt like Jonna did a better job of getting the ball on good spots for us to be successful. We need to still make better decisions on both ends and talk more. We have to get better at free-throw line as we move forward as well.”
Layla Brock led Barbourville with 17 points while Sarah Smith added 10 points.
