MOUNT WASHINGTON — A slow start led to the Corbin Lady Redhounds’ first loss of the season during first round action of Tuesday’s Queen of the Commonwealth tournament.
Corbin (6-1) fell behind 22-11 in the first quarter, and rallied to take a four point lead in the fourth quarter before losing, 74-67.
The Lady Redhounds didn’t have an answer for the Lady Waves’ Peyton Bradley, who finished with a game-high 40 points.
Bradley started, and finished strong, scoring 12 points in the first quarter, and 12 points in the game’s final eight minutes.
“Disappointed in our readiness to play today,” Corbin coach Isaac Wilson said. “We really dug ourselves a hole today, and against good basketball teams you just simply can’t do that.”
Corbin trailed 38-28 at halftime, and 54-48 entering the fourth quarter.
The Lady Redhounds battled and eventually took a four-point lead before Meade County reclaimed momentum and outscored Corbin by 11 points the remainder of the game.
“I’m proud of our fight and our ability to go up four points in the fourth quarter,” Wilson said. “We have to find a way to win that type of game late as the season progresses.
“The Queen of the Commonwealth is a great tournament and you come here to be challenged and to find weaknesses in December,” he added. “We did exactly that today and we will learn from it and move forward. Tomorrow is a new day and will present another great opponent for us to challenge ourselves with. We will be ready to play tomorrow and look forward to the challenge.”
Corbin will be back in action on Wednesday at 4 p.m. against an opponent to be determined later today.
Darcie Anderson, and Kylie Clem both scored 20 points apiece in the loss while Kallie Housley added 12 points.
