STEARNS — Maddy Hopkins poured in a game-high 22 points to lead Whitley County to a convincing 52-27 win over Casey County on Wednesday.
Hopkins connected on 5-of-6 free throw attempts while draining a 3-pointer in the win.
Aubree Clemens turned in a stellar effort as well, adding 15 points while Jonna Rice finished with nine points.
The Lady Colonels (5-2) defensive play was one of their best of the season. The 27 points they allowed to the Lady Rebels is the lowest an opponent has had this season.
The game was close early with Whitley County grabbing a 15-12 advantage behind eight-point first quarter.
The Lady Colonels extended their lead to 28-19 at halftime, and it could have been worse, but they only hit 8-of-14 shot attempts from the free-throw line.
Hopkins added nine points in the third quarter as Whitley County outscored Casey County, 14-3, taking a comfortable 44-22 lead in the fourth quarter.
The Lady Colonels sealed the win by allowing the Lady Rebels to score five points during the final eight minutes. Casey County was held to eight second half points and only three field goals.
