Cardinals advance to semifinal action of Legacy Nissan Dribble Drive Challenge

LONDON — Jordan Mabe continued his impressive play of late while South Laurel received another dose of a balanced scoring effort during its 59-46 win over Owen County during first round action of Wednesday’s Legacy Nissan Dribble Drive Challenge.

Mabe dished out a team-best 19 points while hitting 7-of-8 shot attempts from the free-throw line. Colton Rawlings added 12 points while Jordan Steele, Blaine Baker, and Josh Steele each chipped in seven points apiece. Harrison Brown, and Landon Howard each scored three points apiece while Max Fullmer finished with one point.

Mabe scored eight points in the first quarter while Rawlings added five points as the Cardinals (4-2) built a 22-10 first quarter lead.

South Laurel managed to score only five points in the second quarter while its lead was cut to 27-20 entering halftime.

Mabe added eight more points in the third quarter while Josh Steele scored five points, pushing the Cardinals’ advantage to 11 points at 42-31 entering the fourth quarter.

South Laurel secured the win during the finals eight minutes as Rawlings added seven points while hitting a 3-pointer and going 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Brown and Howard also hit key 3-pointers down the stretch.
