GATLINBURG, Tenn. — Williamsburg coach Anthony Hibbard knew before his team tipped off against North Carolina’s Caldwell Academy they’d have their hands full, and he was right.
His Yellow Jackets suffered a 72-39 setback during first round action of Wednesday’s Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic.
“Definitely a tough test for us tonight,” Hibbard admitted. “Caldwell Academy is ranked No. 5 in North Carolina (2A), and feature some really good players. They have great length and athleticism. Ultimately, that wore us down.
“We knew the game was going to be difficult,” he added. “However, it is good experience for our kids. We need games and we need to learn how to compete, regardless of the outcome. We had some bright moments tonight and we need to continue to build on that momentum. We expect another challenge in the morning.”
Henry Bowling led the Yellow Jackets (4-4) with 17 points while Andrew Smith added 13 points.
