GATLINBURG, TENN. — Williamsburg suffered another loss during its stay in the Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic, but coach Anthony Hibbard was quick to point out his team is getting valuable minutes against quality teams that will allow them to grow and improve as the season progresses.
The Yellow Jackets hung tough against Betsy Lane on Thursday before falling, 55-46.
“Overall, the game was back and forth the entire four quarters,” Hibbard said. “We had the lead with under three minutes to play. Unfortunately, we lost Henry (Bowling) to injury and we never could regroup after that. Betsy Lane regained the lead and made free throws to finish the game.
“These our the moments we want our kids to experience,” he added. “When every possession matters, our mindset has to be tuned to making the best possible play. It is tough, but I hope our guys are embracing these challenges. Adversity can build resilience and we need that in our program.”
