OWINGSVILLE — A slow start didn’t keep South Laurel from picking up a convincing 56-38 win over Raceland on Saturday.
The Lady Cardinals improved to 6-4 overall while putting three players in double figures.
South Laurel held an 18-17 lead at the end of the first quarter, and a 29-28 advantage at halftime before turning its defensive play up a notch in the second half.
The Lady Cardinals outscored the Lady Rams, 27-10, in the second half, limiting Raceland to only five field goals during the final 16 minutes and only five points in each of the third and fourth quarters.
“We again struggled in the first half with silly fouls and lack of communication,” South Laurel coach Chris Souder said. “We did play a much better game in the second half and were good defensively. We just have a lot of work to do. Can’t seem to get everyone on the same page.”
Shelbie Mills, and Skeeter Mabe scored 15 points apiece for the Lady Cardinals while Kylie Smith added 12 points.
