SCOTTSVILLE — South Laurel set the tone early with stingy defensive play and on-point offensive work during the Lady Cardinals’ 60-43 win over Taylor County in Wednesday’s first round action of the Lady of the South Invitational.
South Laurel (7-4) hit four 3-pointers in the first quarter to take an 18-8 lead before limiting Taylor County to only four points in the second quarter to extend its lead to 29-12 at halftime.
Chris Souder’s squad continued to excel on both ends of the court before capturing its 17-point victory.
“Really good win for us today,” Souder said. “We got out of the gate quick and set the tone. Our ball movement was the best it has been all season. Shelbie (Mills) and Maci (Mills) were able to get going and Aubree Bundy and Skeeter Mabe did a great job of handling the basketball. This is a good win. Taylor County is one of the top teams in the 5th Region.”
Mills and Messer scored 20 points apiece while Mills also hit four 3-pointers, and Messer hit two 3-pointers. Sydney Blanton added eight points while Made finished with five points, and Bundy, and Emma Adams finished with one point.
