WILLIAMSBURG — Eric Swords’ Whitley County Colonels are off to their best start in a long while, improving to 10-1 thanks to an impressive, 58-49, win over South Doyle, Tenn. during Wednesday’s Borderline Classic.
Swords wanted to see how his team would react against an athletic team, and his Colonels passed the test.
“Good win versus a quick and athletic team,” he said. “We didn’t play our best in the first half but thought we had a much better second half.”
The Colonels were led by a scoring attack that Swords thought was more balanced.
Danny Ellis led the way with 17 points while Evans Ellis finished with 12 points, and Bryce Anderson chipped in 10 points. Teammates Lucas Queener, and Bryson Mahan added eight, and five points respectively.
“I thought we were pretty balanced offensively but we got to get the ball moving a little more,” Swords said. “We will be back at it tomorrow versus Barbourville at 6:30 p.m.”
