Slow start leads to 33-point Wildcat loss

WILLIAMSBURG — Lynn Camp dropped its second consecutive game in the Borderline Classic on Thursday while falling to 2-8 during the process.

The Wildcats, who have now lost six in a row fell behind 22-10 in the first quarter, and 47-22 at halftime, before losing, 76-43.

“Today didn’t go how we planned but the kids are learning every game,” Lynn Camp coach Tyler Wagner said. “I know the score doesn’t look like it but we are gaining valuable experience every game.”

Lynn Camp attempted to put a comeback together in the second half, but was outscored 29-21 during the final 16 minutes.

“I will take blame for these past losses,” Wagner said. “I need to get my team mentally prepared better before games. We had a rough day today handling the pressure. We threw the ball to everyone but our teammates. When you have 31 turnovers I don’t care who you are, you’re not going to put yourself in a position to win. With the loss of Ian Agosto, we’ve had to make people take more responsibility on the floor and it’s going to help them when he comes back because then we can take more pressure off of him.

“I know it says we have seven seniors but these kids have never had a role of being relied on and counted on,” he added. “So this is all a new learning experience for them. But they are getting better and we are going towards the plan. I know everyone can’t see it right now but just have faith and don’t give up on these kids. They haven’t given up on the floor, so we shouldn’t either.”

Tate Mills led Lynn Camp with 12 points while Ethan Burd added 11 points, and Caleb Woods chipped in seven points.
