Colonels off and running, improve to 11-1 

WILLIAMSBURG — Whitley County is off to its best start since the 2010-11 season when former coach Chris Baker had the Colonels standing at 7-1.

Whitley County improved to 11-1 on Thursday after defeating Barbourville, 76-39, during the Borderline Classic.

The Colonels built a 35-18 first half lead, and used a 22-8 run in the fourth quarter to out the game out of reach.

“Good region win for our guys,” Whitley County coach Eric Swords said. “We were able to turn up our pressure on them early and give them some problems. Proud of how our guys are playing, we just got to continue to battle and get better each day.”

Ten players scored in the win for the Colonels with Evans Ellis leading the way with 19 points. Danny Ellis added 15 points while Lucas Queener scored 11 points. Bryson Mahan, Aaron Rowe, and Bryce Anderson scored seven points apiece.

Ethan Fisher turned in a 13-point scoring effort for Barbourville (4-10) while Jasper Hubbs totaled seven points.
