ORLANDO, Fla. — North Laurel bounced back into the win column on Friday after upending Florida’s Wekiva High School, 54-36.
Coach Eddie Mahan received stellar efforts from across the board with Chloe McKnight’s 19 points and 13 rebounds leading the way. Brooke Nichelson played only 11 minutes but still managed to score 10 points while freshman Mariella Claybrook finished with seven points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots.
“Very good team win today,” Mahan said. “Brooke Nichelson was very limited with a sprained ankle from last night, but she when in and gave the team all she had. We only played her about 11 minutes but her 10 points and six rebounds was enough to impact the game significantly. Chloe McKnight set the tone early with strong post moves and very good rebounding. To finish with 19 points and 13 rebounds in this game is a great accomplishment. She is learning to read the defense and how they are guarding more each game.
“Mariella Claybrook had a very good game and is becoming a player that wants the ball more and more,” he added. “Seven points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots from a freshman is great. Her defensive presence and ability to guard anywhere on the floor changes the game and she did that again today.”
North Laurel will be back in action Friday at 1:30 p.m. the Lady Jaguars’ opponent will be decided later Friday.
