Yellow Jackets get back on track with 66-59 come from behind win

VANCEBURG — Williamsburg fought back from an early 13-point deficit to rally and defeat Iroquois on Saturday, 66-59.

The Yellow Jackets made clutch shot after clutch shot to get the win as Henry Bowling earned Player of the Game honors by scoring 29 points. Andrew Smith added 14 points while Cooper Prewitt added 12 points.

The Yellow Jackets trailed 23-14 after the first quarter but claimed a 34-33 lead at halftime before pulling out the win in the second half.

“Feels really good to get back in the win column,” Williamsburg coach Anthony Hibbard said. “We actually got down 19-6 early and could have easily folded. We challenged our guys and they responded. We cut the lead to four at the half. The second half we came out with more confidence and just played. We had some big contributions from several guys and that is what we want.

“Andrew made some big shots,” he added. “Dalton Henderson came off the bench and grabbed some big rebounds. Lakin and Cooper played with a lot of energy. Our staff has really challenged Henry all season and he’s turning into one of the best guards in the region. He had (29) today and played with a cool headiness. Just proud of all our kids and how they pulled for each other today. We are slowly building the resiliency that we need to compete. We have to continue working and applying what we learn. Again, the process is filled with highs and lows. Celebrate today, back to work tomorrow.”
