Yellow Jackets lose heartbreaker in final seconds to Bellevue

VANCEBURG — Williamsburg continues to show improvement, but suffered a heartbreaking loss on Saturday, falling to Bellevue, 61-60.
The Yellow Jackets led throughout the contest, holding leads of 16-12, and 33-28, after the first and second quarters respectively before Bellevue talking and managed to pick up the win with four seconds remaining.
“We led majority of the game today,” Williamsburg coach Anthony Hibbard said. “However, our overall fatigue caused us to revert back to some of our older habits.
We lost and regained the lead in the last 20 seconds of the game. With four seconds left, Bellevue made a good play and took the lead.
“Unfortunately, we let one get one away from us today and that is on me,” he added. “I did not do enough at the end of the game to help my guys pull this one out. We have a lot of work to do, but for now we need to rest and regroup for the second half of the season. Overall, it would have been nice to get one today. However, I am proud of the progress we are making collectively. We could easily be 8-5 going into the new year. Instead we are 5-8, with a few hard losses. I truly believe that our current experiences will help us win those type of games in the future.”
Henry Bowling led Williamsburg with 21 points while Andrew Smith chipped in 15 points, and Conner Saylor scored 10 points.
