HARLAN — South Laurel knocked down 13 3-pointers while receiving a 19-point scoring effort from Jordan Mabe to cruise past Harlan with a 75-60 win on Tuesday.
The win improved the red-hot Cardinals to 10-2 overall while running their win streak to seven games.
“We had some guys step up big tonight and hit some shots that we needed,” South Laurel coach Jeff Davis said. “Josh and Landon have really been working hard and it was good to see it pay off tonight with shots falling for them. Jordan Steele and Garrison are doing a great job of handling the point and giving us a nice balance there.
“McClendon is as hard to guard and anyone in the region,” he added. “He is a nightmare and he does it the right way. Keeps everyone involved and trust his teammates. One of the top five players in the region no question.”
Harlan’s Kyler McLendon led all scorers with 34 points while the loss dropped the Green Dragons to 2-9.
South Laurel came out red-hot from the floor, hitting four 3-pointers in the first quarter to take a 22-13 lead. Josh Steele hit two 3-pointers and scored nine of his 17 Points. Colton Rawlings added two 3-pointers while scoring six of his 17 points in the first eight minutes. Mabe added five points while pulling down numerous rebounds.
The Cardinals’ lead grew to 44-27 at halftime as Rawlings added eight points, Mabe scored six points, and Steele chipped in five points.
Mabe added six more points in the third quarter while Max Fullmer scored four points to push South Laurel’s lead to 61-42 entering the fourth quarter.
Harlan outscored South Laurel, 18-14, in the fourth quarter, but the damage had already been done. Landon Howard hit three 3-pointers during the period while scoring nine points. Rawlings added his fifth 3-pointers of the game during the period.
