WILLIAMSBURG — Whitley County’s punched its ticket to Friday’s Class 2A, Section 7 championship game with a 63-52 win over McCreary Central on Tuesday.
The Colonels (13-1) will face-off against unbeaten Bell County (14-0) in Friday’s title game at Whitley County High School.
The Bobcats won their earlier game, defeating Knox Central in overtime, 58-56.
Whitley County wanted to take care of business early against the Raiders, and the Colonels did just that, leading 16-11 at the end of the first quarter and 36-21 at halftime before
Eric Swords’ squad opened the second half with a 5-0 run, building a 20-point lead while never looking back.
“We came out and did a good job of jumping on them early,” Swords said. “We got up 41-21 early in the third and kinda relaxed and allowed them to get back to close the gap some. We are excited to be playing in the championship again on Friday. We need all of Colonel Nation to come out and support us.”
Evan Ellis led Whitley County with 19 points while Dre Ellis finished with 17 points, and Bryce Anderson scored 12 points.
