Yellow Jackets pull out slim 49-44 win over Lynn Camp

CORBIN — Williamsburg pulled out a slim 49-44 win over Lynn Camp which turned out to be a 13th Region thriller.

The game was close throughout but the Yellow Jackets did just enough to improve to 6-8 while the Wildcats suffered their eighth loss in a row, falling to 2-10 in the process.

“Fortunate to win another one tonight,” Williamsburg coach Anthony Hibbard said. “I thought we could have extended our lead multiple times, however, credit Coach Wagner and Lynn Camp for fighting back. They hit some big shots at the end to make it a one possession game. At one point, we were top 10 in the state in free throw percentage, tonight we missed 15 at the line. Again, we gutted it out and finished it. We have to regroup and prepare for a tough one against Barbourville on Saturday.”

Another slow start for Lynn Camp allowed Williamsburg to build a 15-9 lead as Andrew Smith scored six points while Cooper Prewitt added five points in the first eight minutes.

Williamsburg extended its lead to 30-20 at halftime as Prewitt added six more points.

The Wildcats outscored the Yellow Jackets, 11-9, during the third quarter, cutting their deficit to 39-31 as Ethan Burd scored seven points.

Lynn Camp continued to rally behind Tate Mills’ seven points in the fourth quarter but Williamsburg did just enough down the stretch to hold off the Wildcats’ bid to win by hitting 8-of-18 free throw attempts during the game’s final eight minutes.

Smith led the Yellow Jackets with 13 points while Prewitt added 11 points. Henry Bowling chipped in nine points while Conner Saylor and Dalton Henderson each scored eight points apiece.

Mills led Lynn Camp with 17 points while Burd added 11 points, and Caleb Woods finished with eight points.
