Bobcats improve to 15-0, capture Class 2A, Section 7 title with win over Whitley County

WILLIAMSBURG — Brad Sizemore’s Bell County Bobcats improved to 15-0 after capturing Friday’s Class 2A, Section 7 championship over Whitley County.

The Bobcats did just enough to pull off a 49-47 win over the Colonels while snapping Whitley County’s 13-game win streak during the process.

“This was a great win for our guys,” Bell County coach Brad Sizemore said. “Whitley County has a really good team. It was a great environment. Our kids played tremendously hard the entire game, and we found a way to win down the stretch. I’m happy for them, and we are very excited to advance to the next round of the tournament.”

The game was nip and tuck throughout with Whitley County (13-2) trailing 20-16 at the end of the first quarter before taking a 27-26 lead at halftime.

The game was tied at 38 apiece entering the fourth quarter before Bell County did just enough to pull off the two-point win.

Cameron Hall led the Bobcats with 18 points while Blake Burnett finished with 17 points.

Evans Ellis was the lone Colonel player scoring in double digits. He scored 16 points while Bryce Anderson and Bryson Mahan scored nine points apiece.

“Kids battled extremely hard,” Whitley County coach Eric Swords said. “It was a back and forth dog fight. I thought our guys were up to the challenge, we just didn’t make enough plays down the stretch. Credit to Bell County they have a good team that plays hard. I love our team and how hard we played, we just got to stick together and continue to get better.”
