Yellow Jackets rally from second half deficit to beat Barbourville

MANCHESTER — Williamsburg punched its ticket into the semifinals of the 13th Region All “A” Classic Tournament on Saturday.

The Yellow Jackets built an early lead, only to see the Tigers take a lead in the second half before rallying to defeat Barbourville, 60-53.

“We are really proud of how our guys started the game tonight,” Williamsburg coach Anthony Hibbard said. “We gapped Barbourville early and built a solid lead. We got stagnant in the second quarter and that allowed Barbourville to make a run and cut it to three at the half. Barbourville was able to gain the lead in the second half.

“Our guys stayed resilient and battled back,” he added. “A month ago, I believe we would have lost our composure and folded. However, tonight was different for us. We did not sway mentally and we were able to finish the game. Proud of our effort and how we maintained our composure. Now, we have to prepare for another tough one on Monday.”

Henry Bowling led Williamsburg with 22 points while Andrew Smith scored 15 points, and Conner Saylor added 14 points.

Trevor Triplett led Barbourville with 15 points while Dalton Alsip scored 10 points.
