The duo of Kade Elam and Cameron Combs continue to do damage to opposing teams’ defenses, and things weren’t any different during Friday’s 42-13 blowout win over No. 8 Whitley County.
Elam threw for two touchdowns, and ran for two touchdowns while Combs had two rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown in the 29-point win.
Corbin’s defense continued to dominate and has allowed only 18 points in two games this season.
The No. 1 ranked Redhounds (2-0) have now won seven straight against the Colonels (0-2) since the rivalry renewed back in 2015.
Corbin will be back in action Friday on the road against Frankfort while Whitley County will host No. 6 Harlan County.
The Redhounds came out clicking on offense, quickly taking a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.
Kade Elam hit Eli Pietrowski for a four-yard touchdown connection to give Corbin a 7-0 lead at the 6:14 mark.
Elam added a one-yard rushing touchdown with 1:46 remaining in the opening period to push the Redhounds’ advantage to 14-0.
Whitley County got on the scoreboard in the second quarter as Tye Hamblin’s 30-yard pass found Bryson Potter for a touchdown, cutting the Colonels’ deficit to 14-6 with 7:51 remaining in the second quarter.
Corbin answered with three touchdowns to finish the first half while putting the game away during the process.
Cameron Combs scored on a seven-yard touchdown run while Elam broke loose for a 43-yard touchdown carry, making the score, 28-6 with 5:40 left in the second quarter. Combs’ second rushing touchdown, another seven-yarder, gave the Redhounds a commanding, 35-6, lead at halftime.
The Redhounds continued to click in the third quarter as Elam’s 54-yard touchdown pass to Combs gave Corbin a 42-6 cushion with 6:54 left in the third quarter.
Whitley County’s final score came on a nine-yard touchdown run by Hamblin.
