WILLIAMSBURG — Three players scored in double figures during Pineville’s 60-41 win over Whitley County on Thursday.
The Lady Mountain Lions’ trio of Rachel Howard, Nadine Johnson, and Ava Arnett combined to score 55 points in the win.
Howard led the way with 20 points while Johnson added 18 points, and Arnett finished with 17 points.
“Give Pineville credit, they played well and got us out of our game,” Whitley County coach Sean Pigman said. “We are going to have to learn some things as we grow throughout the season. We need to learn the importance of competing and toughness in practice. Didn’t have a good practice yesterday and it showed up tonight.
“Nobody in our program is happy with how we played tonight,” he added. “We will get back to work tomorrow and try to fix some things.”
The game was close throughout the first half with Pineville (12-2) holding a 13-10 edge at the end of the first quarter, and a 30-23 lead entering halftime.
Johnson scored seven points in the third quarter while Arnett added four points allowing the Lady Mountain Lions to build a 43-31 cushion entering the game’s final eight minutes.
Arnett hit two 3-pointers and scored 12 points in the fourth quarter while Howard added five points to secure the win for Pineville.
Jonna Rice led the Lady Colonels (11-5) with 12 points while Aubree Clemens finished with 11 points, and Maddy Hopkins scored 10 points.
