LONDON — A long-standing rivalry between two of the state’s top coaches will be reignited today as Tony Pietrowski’s Corbin Redhounds go head-to-head against Steve Wright’s Madison Southern Eagles at 5:30 p.m. The game will take place at South Laurel High School, a venue that witnessed some of the most memorable matchups between these coaches in the mid to late 2000s.
Pietrowski’s Redhounds and Wright’s former team, South Laurel, engaged in numerous intense battles in the 50th District and 13th Region, creating lasting memories for fans. Now, the two coaches will once again face each other with their respective teams, both eager to secure a victory.
Currently, Pietrowski’s Redhounds (9-4) are on a three-game winning streak. The team is led by Eli Pietrowski, who boasts an impressive scoring average of 13.7 points per game. Zander Curry is not far behind, averaging 12.2 points per game. Trey Worley contributes 9.7 points per game, while Conner Middleton (8.8) and Ryder Akins (8.6) follow closely behind.
In terms of rebounding, Curry and Pietrowski lead the Corbin team with identical averages of 7.2 rebounds per game. Worley is not far behind with an average of 6.1 rebounds per game.
On the other side, Madison Southern (12-4) enters the contest fresh off an 86-56 loss to Ashland Blazer. The Eagles have four players who consistently score in double figures — Jay Rose (24.2), Zach Hudson (16.8), Braden Hudson (15.5), and Caden Nobe (13.3).
Rose also leads Madison Southern in rebounding, with Zach Hudson following closely behind at 5.6 rebounds per game.
