LONDON — It was a game of runs during South Laurel’s matchup with Russell on Saturday, and unfortunately the Lady Cardinals were on the wrong side of two.
Both teams were hoping to pull out the win in the GraceHealth Raymond Reed Classic, but it was Russell who used two separate runs to eventually pick up a 69-56 decision over South Laurel.
The loss is the Lady Cardinals’ second in a row while they fell to 11-8 during the process.
“We got off to a horrible start, getting down 20-4,” South Laurel coach Chris Souder said. “We somehow got it down to right at half. We then tied the game at 50 but again went to sleep and they finished the game on a 20-6 run. Can’t do those things against quality teams. Disappointing start and finish and can’t do much against anyone if we are not going to come ready to play.”
Skeeter Mabe led South Laurel with 15 points while Maci Messer finished with 12 points and Shelbie Mills added 11 points. Callie Jones chipped in eight points.
