WILLIAMSBURG — Whitley County continued its impressive play on Saturday just a day after snapping a 20-game losing skid to 50th District rival Corbin.
The Colonels showed no effects of a letdown against Cordia, as they cruised to an easy, 68-26, win.
Whitley County ran its win streak to two games, and improved to 15-4 during the process. The Colonels will be tested again this week with games against Jackson County, South Laurel, and Owsley County.
“Good senior day win for our guys,” Whitley County coach Eric Swords said. “After a hard battle last night it was good to come out and take care of business. Everybody got minutes and we got to honor our four seniors — Bryce Anderson, Dre Ellis, Jackson Petrey, and Lucas Queener. Those four have played a huge part in our program. I feel like our team is starting to really come together, hopefully we can get Evan (Ellis) back healthy soon and keep rolling.”
Swords’ squad wasted little time taking control of the contest, using a 24-4 run in the first eight minutes to build a 20-point edge.
Lucas Queener scored seven of his 14 points in the first quarter while Dre Ellis scored six of his game-high 16 points.
Whitley County held a 45-14 lead at halftime, and a 62-23 lead entering the fourth quarter.
Bryce Anderson also scored in double digits for the Colonels, finishing with 10 points.
