Shelbie Mills scores 30 points, turns in 14-of-15 shooting effort during South Laurel’s 57-point win over Williamsburg

WILLIAMSBURG — After losing a heartbreaker to Coebin just the day before, Chris Souder’s South Laurel Lady Cardinals was a team on a mission during their 85-28 win over Williamsburg.

The Lady Cardinals built a 50-15 win in the first half and never looked back, improving to 14-9 overall, and 3-1 versus 50th District opponents.

The loss dropped the Lady Yellow Jackets to 4-12 and 0-4 in district action.

Souder received balanced scoring from his squad with eleven players notching at least a point while the team dished out 27 assists.

“Good bounce back game for us,” Souder said. “Kids were energized and ready to go especially after a tough district loss the night before. We worked on some different things defensively. Shelbie Mills had 30 points in the first half. She was 14-of-15 from field. We had 27 assists as well. Good for some of our younger, younger kids as well to get some good minutes.”

Freshman Shelbie Mills continued her impressive play, reaching the 30-point plateau for the second time in three games while hitting 14-of-15 shot attempts from the floor. She finished with 30 points, scoring 19 of those in the first quarter and 11 more in the second quarter.

Emma Adams hit three 3-pointers, scoring nine points while Maci Messer added nine points. Kylie Smith and Kenna Andes chipped in seven points apiece.

Allie Wilson, and Presley Spicer led Williamsburg with seven points apiece.
