WILLIAMSBURG — Still without its leading scorer and rebounder, Jordan Mabe, South Laurel dug deep once again, picking up an important 50th District win over Williamsburg on Tuesday.
Led by Josh Steele’s 17-point scoring effort, the Cardinals built an early lead and dominated the remainder, winning 75-46 during the process.
“Good Team Win,” South Laurel coach Jeff Davis said. “Guys really took what we have worked on last couple days and refocus on what we pride in, our defense.
“Just have to keep grinding and get better each day,” he added. “It’s getting crunch time and we have to focus each day and concentrate on the little things.”
The Cardinals improved to 12-6 with the win and 2-1 against 50th District competition while Williamsburg has now lost three in a row and fell to 10-11. The Yellow Jackets are now 1-3 against district opponents.
Landen Howard and Jordan Steele also scored in double figures for South Laurel, finishing with 12 points apiece while Colton Rawlings added 10 points, and Zach Thomas chipped in nine points.
Williamsburg’s Andrew Smith led all scorers with 24 points while Jacob Taylor added six points.
