Four players score in double figures to lift Clay County past Corbin

MANCHESTER — Two 13th Region rivals hooked up in another 13th Region Classic with Clayton County edging Corbin on Tuesday, 68-65.
Powered by four players scoring in double digits, the Tigers did just enough to secure the three-point victory despite a late rally by Corbin.
Ethan Jackson scored 11 of his team-best 17 points in the fourth quarter while Hayden Harris scored 16 points and Jerrod Roark chipped in 15 points. Adon Grubb added 10 points in the win.
Clay County led 15-14 at the end of the first quarter and 35-24 at halftime before Corbin cut its deficit to 47-42 at the end of the third quarter.
“Made too many scoring turnovers, coupled with not finishing enough around a rim and dug ourselves in hole,” Corbin coach Tony Pietrowski said. “Proud of our effort and execution late. We gave ourselves a chance to win. We need to play at that level more consistently and for longer stretches. Some bright spots in the loss. I thought Ryder (Akins) played really well and grew throughout the game.
“Eli (Pietrowski) and Zander (Curry) battled,” he added. “We asked them to do a lot this evening and they responded. We are moving in the right direction. Huge test Saturday against top ranked Great Crossing.”
Ryder Akins and Zander Curry led Corbin with 15 points apiece while Connor Middleton scored 12 points and Eli Pietrowski added 10 points.
