LONDON — The region’s top two girls team will tip-off against each other on Friday at The Jungle when top ranked North Laurel faces off against defending 13th Region champion and No. 2 ranked Corbin.
Both teams are red-hot entering the matchup with the Lady Jaguars (15-4) winning nine of their last 10 games with their only loss during the time frame a one-point last second setback to Knox Central, who hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to win.
After losing five games in a row, the Lady Redhounds have bounced back and won four straight which includes wins over South Laurel, Franklin County, Whitley County and Williamsburg.
The two teams met in the finals of the WYMT Classic with Corbin (13-7) coming away with a convincing, 65-47, win.
Since the matchup, North Laurel is 11-3, and the Lady Redhounds are 9-7.
Corbin is led by senior Kallie Housley, who is averaging 16.7 points per game while Kylie Clem is tossing in 16.4 points per game. Bailey Stewart is averaging 10.3 points per game while Darcie Anderson is scoring 9.3 points per game. Raegan Walker is averaging 7.2 points per game.
Walker also leads the Lady Redhounds with a 6.7 rebounding average while Housley has a 4.1 rebounding average. Clem averages 4.0 rebounds per game while Stewart (3.8), and Anderson (3.0) follows.
Junior Brooke Nichelson leads the Lady Jaguars with an 18.7 points per game average and a 9.2 rebounding average. Chloe McKnight is averaging 13.9 points per game and 8.6 rebounds per game. Haley Combs is averaging 7.6 points per game and 3.6 rebounds per game while Mariella Claybrook is averaging 6.3 points per game and 7.1 rebounds per game. Jaelyn Black has a 5.1 scoring average while Gracie McKnight is averaging 3.9 points per game. Emma Carl is chipping in 2.6 points per game and 3.1 rebounds per game.
