Lady Yellow Jackets hang tough before falling to Somerset, 61-48

SOMERSET — Melissa Douglas’ Williamsburg Lady Yellow Jackets hung tough on the road before falling to Somerset, 61-48.

Williamsburg (4-13) had hopes of putting an end to their three-game losing skid, but came up short in the second half.

“Fell short tonight,” Douglas said. “I’m still proud of improvements we are making as a team. We need to keep building our confidence and shoot more. Allie and Hannah both played a solid offensive game and hit some great shots. Just need more players to score.”

The Lady Briar Jumpers led 14-10 at the end of the first quarter behind Tori Robertson’s 10 points. She finished with a team-best 22 points.

The Lady Yellow Jackets rallied in the second quarter, tying the game at 27 apiece at halftime.

Allie Wilson hit two 3-pointers during the quarter, and scored eight points while Hannah Creekmore hit a 3-pointer and scored five points.

Williamsburg had a dry spell finding the basket in the third quarter, scoring only seven points while trailing, 41-34, entering the fourth quarter.

Somerset reeled in the win by outscoring the Lady Yellow Jackets, 20-14, during the game’s final eight minutes.

Wilson led Williamsburg with 20 points while Creekmore added 18 points.
