Hopkins records 1,000th career point during Whitley County’s 56-39 win over Clay County

MANCHESTER — Whitley County’s got back to its winning ways on Saturday, snapping a four-game losing skid thanks to a 56-39 win over Clay County.

The Lady Colonels hadn’t won since Jan. 22, but managed to get back to the win column after turning in a stellar effort on both ends of the floor.

Whitley County is now 13-9 while the Lady Tigers dropped to 6-17.

“Nice to get a win,” Whitley County coach Sean Pigman said. “Kids played hard and battled after long, tough battle last night. Clay County did a nice job and really competed. Was pleased with Jonna (Rice) tonight being vocal and aggressive.

“Excited for Maddy Hopkins, as she scored her 1,000 point,” he added. “We gotta go correct some things and get ready for Williamsburg on Tuesday. Go Colonels.”

Rice led Whitley County with 21 points while Hopkins, who notched her 1,000th career point, followed with 14 points. Aubree Clemens also scored in double figures, finishing with 13 points.
