Three Lady Colonels score in double figures during Whitley County’s 54-30 win over Williamsburg 

WILLIAMSBURG — Whitley County’s made it a clean regular season sweep of Williamsburg, capturing its second win over the Lady Yellow Jackets with a 54-30 decision.

The win improved the Lady Colonels to 14-9 overall while pushing their 50th District mark to 2-3. The loss dropped the Lady Yellow Jackets to 4-14 and 0-5 against district opponents.

“Good district win tonight,” Whitley County coach Sean Pigman said. “Proud of our girls. Felt like we gave a good effort all night. Foul trouble bothered us at times but we were able to make runs at the right times. Jonna had a really nice game all around and hit 4 3s. 

“We hit eight 3s and it is great to see us to shoot the ball better,” he added. “Tonight was about our seniors Amber Brown and Jalicia Brummett. Those two kids are special people and have been through a lot of stuff last couple years and have handled adversity and persevered. Just really proud to get to send them out on senior night with a big win against a cross town rival they have meant a lot to our program. We will now get back to work and get ready for Bell county on Friday.”

Points was at a bare minimum during the first half with Whitley County claiming an 8-2 edge after the first quarter and 24-12 lead at halftime.

Both teams’ offensive attacks improved in the second half with the Lady Colonels outscoring Williamsburg, 30-18, during the final 16 minutes.

Jonna Rice continued her impressive play, scoring 16 points for the Lady Colonels while Maddy Hopkins had 13 points, and Aubree Clemens chipped in 12 points.

Hannah Creekmore led the Lady Yellow Jackets with nine points while Allie Wilson added seven points, and Presley Spicer finished with six points.
