Colonels get revenge, limit Williamsburg to season-low 26 points during 40-point victory 

WILLIAMSBURG — Whitley County exacted revenge against Williamsburg on Tuesday in a key 50th battle on Tuesday.

After suffering a 61-60 setback on Jan. 12 against the Yellow Jackets, the Colonels returned the favor with an impressive 66-26 victory while limiting Williamsburg to its lowest scoring output of the season.

The win keeps Whitley County’s hope of capturing the 50th District’a top seed alive. The Colonels are now 18-5 overall and 3-2 against 50th District foes.

The 40-point victory over Williamsburg sets up a winner takes all matchup with Corbin on Friday, The Colonels will host the Redhounds, who are 4-1 against district opponents. Another win over Corbin would allow Whitley County to win the tiebreaker over the Redhounds. The Colonels defeated Corbin, 46-45, on Jan. 26.

“Great win for our kids,” Whitley County coach Eric Swords said. “I thought our effort and intensity were great. We were upset that we let one slip away over there and we took care of business. Sets up a showdown with us and Corbin for the No. 1 seed on Friday. We need all of colonel nation to come out and support. Proud of our guys.”

Dre Ellis led Whitley County with 16 points while Bryson Mahan, and Lucas Queener each scored 11 points apiece. Dee Parker and Bryce Anderson scored eight points apiece.

Andrew Smith and Cooper Prewitt each led Williamsburg (12-12, 1-4) with nine points while Henry Bowling added six points.
