Redhounds cruise past Barbourville, now sets focus on Friday’s matchup with Whitley County

CORBIN — Corbin took care of business on Thursday, securing a 76-52 win over Barbourville while placing five players in double figures.

Trey Worley, Conner Middleton, Lucas Brittain, and Eli Pietrowski scored 11 points apiece while Zander Curry finished with 10 points. Worley also grabbed his 500th career rebound.

The 24-point win comes just a day before the Redhounds go on the road to face-off against Whitley County in a winner takes-all 50th District matchup.

Corbin is 4-2 against district opponents while the Colonels are 3-2. Whoever wins Friday’s matchup will capture the district’s top seed.

Whitley County won the first meeting between the two teams on Jan. 26 with a 46-45 decision.

“Workman-like effort by my guys tonight,” Corbin coach Tony Pietrowski said. “Frankly, it would have been easy to overlook Barbourville considering the game we have tomorrow, but I thought for the most part we played well and executed a game plan. Barbourville shot it well early. We didn’t panic. Stayed with ourselves and stretched the lead towards halftime. Five guys in double figures is encouraging.

“Congratulations goes out to Trey Worley who secured his 500th career rebound,” he added. “Big one tomorrow night. We are excited for the opportunity in front of us.”
