Lady Jaguars run district win streak to 48 games with 50-47 win over Jackson County

MCKEE — North Laurel continued its dominance against 49th District teams, but it wasn’t easy.

The Lady Jaguars won their 48th consecutive game against district opponents by rallying from a 17-10 first quarter deficit to defeat the Lady Generals, 50-47.

North Laurel (18-4 overall, 4-0 vs. 49th District opponents) outscored Jackson County (14-8, 3-2) 18-7 in the second quarter which turned out to be the key to the game.

”Another ugly win against Jackson,” North Laurel coach Eddie Mahan said. “It seems to be Deja vu every time we play them the last few years. We don’t show up. They get up on us. We come back and win in ugly fashion. Jackson County is talented and my players are going to have to realize we have to come into the game with a purpose.”

The Lady Jaguars led 28-24 at halftime, and 39-35 entering the fourth quarter. Mariella Claybrook and Haley Combs both scored four points during the fourth quarter to help North Laurel record the three-point win.

Claybrook led the Lady Jaguars with 17 points while Brooke Nichelson and Chloe McKnight scored nine points apiece. Combs also chipped in eight points.

Maddie Curry led Jackson County with 16 points while Jenna Creech finished with 13 points.
