WILLIAMSBURG — Evan Ellis knocked down five 3-pointers, and scored 19 points to help lead the Whitley County Colonels to a 72-49 win over Lynn Camp on Monday.
“Good win for our guys,” Whitley County coach Eric Swords said. “I thought we moved the basketball well. We got to continue to rebound the ball better heading into the last weeks of the regular season. We can’t seem to catch a break health wise with JP now being out for an extended period but it opens minutes for other guys to contribute. Wag is doing a great job with his bunch, I know their record doesn’t show it but he has them playing better and improving.”
The Colonels came out firing on all cylinders, looking to get back to their winning ways after falling to Corbin last week.
Eric Swords’ squad took a 19-12 lead in the first quarter, and built it into a 38-24 advantage at halftime.
Evan Ellis hit three 3-pointers in the third quarter while Dre Ellis added four points to help push Whitley County’s advantage to a commanding 54-34 with only eight minutes remaining.
Dre Ellis and Bryson Mahan added 13 points apiece while Lucas Queener finished with eight points for the Colonels.
Tate Mills led Lynn Camp with 22 points while Ethan Burd finished with 12 points.
The loss dropped the Wildcats to 7-15. They entered the contest with hopes of winning their second game in a row for only the second time this season.
