Housley scores 27 points, hits five 3-pointers during Corbin’s 70-27 win over Whitley County

WILLIAMSBURG — The Corbin Lady Redhounds were clicking on all cylinders during their 70-27 win over Whitley County on Monday.

The Lady Redhounds held the Lady Colonels to their lowest scoring output of the season (they also scored 27 points against Casey County on Dec. 20, 2023).

What’s even bigger is Corbin (16-8) improving to 5-1 in district play, tying South Laurel at the top spot. The Lady Cardinals are also 5-1.

“We knew coming into tonight that it was big for district seeding,” Corbin coach Isaac Wilson said. “We wanted to best position ourselves, understanding that tonight could tie for the one seed, and I feel that our team responded to that challenge.”

Corbin wasted little time taking command of the game. The Lady Redhounds built a 23-8 lead in the first quarter and led 49-17 at halftime.

Wilson’s squad limited the Lady Colonels to only four field goals and 10 points in the second half.

“I really like our effort defensively, and how we are sharing the basketball, and finding the open player offensively,” Wilson said. “We finished tonight with 20 assists from our in-game live stats, which is a nice number that any coach would like to see. Both of these are very important for us moving forward, and our players must continue to focus on them. We will enjoy this one for tonight, but we must get our sights set on Bell County on Friday night.”

Kallie Housley led Corbin with 27 points. The senior guard also knocked down five 3-pointers. Kylie Clem added 12 points while Bailey Stewart finished with 10 points.

Aubree Clemens led Whitley County with eight points while Maddy Hopkins added four points.

“It was a frustrating night,” Whitley County coach Sean Pigman said. “Corbin played a really good game, and whipped us from tip. They shot the ball really well. Give the kids and coach Wilson credit, they were struggling a bit a few weeks ago and looked like a different team tonight. We gotta get back to work and get better which will do.”

The loss dropped Whitley County to 14-11 overall, and 2-4 against 50th District opponents.
