Yellow Jackets survive overtime battle with Barbourville, pull off 59-55 win

WILLIAMSBURG — Anthony Hibbard’s Williamsburg Yellow Jackets evened their record at 13-13 after surviving an overtime battle against Barbourville.

The Yellow Jackets placed three players in double figures in scoring to survive the Tigers with a 59-55 win.

Andrew Smith led Williamsburg with 18 points while Conner Saylor scored 17 points, and Henry Bowling finished with 16 points.

“Just so fortunate to pick up another win tonight,” Hibbard said. “Coach (Chris) Taylor and his squad came in and played really hard. They really pushed us tonight and made big plays. Proud of our effort tonight. That’s ultimately how we got the victory. We willed it. We did not execute at a high level and struggled shooting the ball, but our guys found a way to win. At the end of the day, that’s all that matters.

“We are still trying to figure this thing out, but we are incredibly proud of our progress,” he added. “Our district slate of games have really taken our legs. We have to regroup and try to finish the season strong.”

Ethan Fischer led Barbourville (6-19) with 20 points while Jasper Hubbs scored 19 points.
