BARBOURVILLE — Eric Swords’ Whitley County Colonels notched win No. 20 on Thursday, cruising to an easy, 71-42, win over Barbourville.
The Colonels received stellar efforts from Evan and Dre Ellis, who combined to score 38 points in the win.
Swords said he believed it’s the first time in program history that Whitley County has won at least 20 games in consecutive years and only the fifth 20-win season in program history.
Dre Ellis finished with 25 points while Evan Ellis finished with 13 points. Bryce Anderson also had a big game, finishing with 14 points.
“Good road win for our guys,” Swords said. “I thought we were active defensively and did a great job on the 50/50 balls and rebounding. We have a tough three regular season games coming up to end the season. We play the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the region and a North Laurel team, who I believe is top 5. We will have our work cut out for us but we want that to help us prepare for district.”
Whitley County led out of the gate, building a 17-6 lead in the first quarter while never looking back. The Colonels held a 36-21 lead at halftime, and pushed their advantage to 54-33 entering the fourth quarter.
Jasper Hubbs led Barbourville with 15 points while Riley Corey added 11 points.
