Jason Chappell has stepped down as North Laurel High School’s football coach after compiling a 14-11 record during his two years as the head coach of the Jaguars football program.
Chappell guided North Laurel to an impressive 8-5 mark this past season while leading the Jaguars to the Class 5A, Region 4 championship game. He posted a 6-6 mark during his first year at North Laurel.
Chappell said he loves North Laurel High School and is very apprciative of Principal Mike Black, Athletic Director Haley Ratliff, and entire faculty and staff at North Laurel High School. He also wanted to thank the student body and entire North Laurel community for all of their support the past two years. Mostly, he wanted to thank the young men that played for him for all of their hard work and dedication to our program.
Chappell’s departure is completely voluntary. He said he is looking forward spending more time with his children, getting more involved in their activities while fulfilling other career goals outside of football.
“On behalf of North Laurel High School, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Coach Jason Chappell and his family for their dedication and commitment to our football program,” North Laurel principal Mike Black, and North Laurel athletic director Haley Ratliff said in a joint statement. “Coach Chappell joined us two years ago and has been an exceptional mentor to his players, instilling in them a sense of excellence both on and off the field.
“Under his leadership, our team achieved one of the most remarkable seasons in the history of North Laurel football, overcoming tough opponents that we hadn’t faced in years,” they added. “Coach Chappell has been an incredible addition to our North Laurel family, and we will miss him greatly. We are grateful to him and his family for their contributions, and we wish them the best as they embark on new educational endeavors. Once a Jaguar, always a Jaguar.”
