Lady Cardinals’ struggles continue, losing skid hits three games

SOMERSET — With only one regular season game remaining before next week’s 50th District Tournament, Christina Souder’s South Laurel Lady Cardinals are struggling.

South Laurel suffered a season-worst third loss in a row on Monday after falling to Pulaski County on the road, 81-58.

The Cardinals (17-12) never got on track against the Lady Maroons, trailing 28-14 at the end of the first quarter and 50-30 at halftime.

Things got even worse in the third quarter as Pulaski County outscored South Laurel, 18-8, to take a 68-38 lead into the fourth quarter.

“Plain and simple, we didn’t compete and when you play a good team, that is going to get magnified,” Souder said. “We have one week to try and figure out how to get back to the brand of basketball that we played in January. Let’s hope we can figure it out.”

Skeeter Mabe led South Laurel with 15 points while Shelbie Mills added 14 points and Maci Messer added 11 points.
