Red-hot Cardinals gain more momentum with 56-44 win over Madison Central

LONDON — South Laurel remains red-hot after capturing its third straight win, knocking off Madison Central, 56-44, on Monday.

It marked the fifth consecutive game the Cardinals (16-9) have held an opponent under 50 points.

“Good team win,” South Laurel coach Jeff Davis said. “Guys are playing hard and getting better. Another quick turnaround tomorrow against a really good Knott County team.”

South Laurel took control of the game early, building a 17-8 lead behind seven points from Colton Rawlings, and six points from Josh Steele.

Jordan Mabe added four points in the second quarter while Landon Howard hit a 3-pointer to give the Cardinals a 26-17 lead at halftime.

Long range shots from Garrison Brown and Rawlings combined with four points from Steele pushed South Laurel’s lead to 43-27 entering the fourth quarter. 

Mabe added six points in the fourth quarter while the Cardinals wrapped up the win by going 7-of-14 from the free-throw line.

Josh Steele led South Laurel with 14 points while Colton Rawlings and Mabe scored 13 points apiece.
