Jaguars continue to heat up with 76-68 win over Whitley County

WILLIAMSBURG — North Laurel continues to heat up while Whitley County has cooled down with less than a week until postseason play begins.

The Jaguars led by as many as 20 points during Tuesday’s 13th Region matchup with the Colonels, and managed to come away with a 76-68 victory.

“I’m happy for our guys to get a road win against a quality opponent,” Valentine said. “Whitley County didn’t shoot the ball particularly well in the first half, and we were able to get a lead and hang on as we made our free throws down the stretch.”

Jordan Rawlings turned in an impressive effort, scoring a team-best 23 points while knocking down five 3-pointers. Cooper Elza added 15 points while hitting 5-of-6 shot attempts from the free-throw line. Brody Brock and Joe Smith finished with 11 points apiece while RJ Noble added nine points, and Kole Jervis scored six points.

North Laurel secured the win by hitting 12-of-14 free throw attempts in the fourth quarter.

Evan Ellis led Whitley County in scoring with 19 points while Dre Ellis finished with 15 points, and Lucas Queener scored 13 points.

The win improved the Jaguars to 15-14 overall and 10-3 vs. 13th Region opponents. The Colonels are now 20-8, and 10-7 against regional foes.
