Lady Cardinals force Whitley County into 23 turnovers during 49-30 win 

WILLIAMSBURG — A stellar defensive effort combined with Skeeter Mabe’s game-high 22-points played big roles in South Laurel’s 49-30 win over Whitley County during Monday’s semifinal action of the 50th District Tournament. 

Mabe also added eight rebounds, four blocked shots, three assists and one steal in the win while Shelbie Mills finished with 13 points. Maci Messer added six points while Aubrey Bundy led South Laurel with five assists while finishing with three points. Jamie Buenaventura also had three points in the win.

The Lady Cardinals finished hitting 17-of-51 shot attempts from the floor, including going 4-of-20 from 3-point range, but limited the Lady Colonels only 9-of-44 shooting from the floor. Whitley County finished 1-of-12 from 3-point range, but managed to outrebound South Laurel, 37-26. 

Chris Souder’s squad only had six turnovers while forcing the Lady Colonels into 23 miscues.

Aubree Clemens led Whitley County with 13 points while Maddy Hopkins finished with seven points and Jonna Rice added five points.

The Lady Cardinals will face-off against Corbin in Thursday’s 50th District title game. The two teams split a pair of games this season.
