Corbin punches ticket to 20th consecutive regional tournament, defeats Williamsburg, 67-30

WILLIAMSBURG — The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Tony Pietrowski’s Corbin Redhounds clinched their 20th straight berth into the 13th Region Tournament by rolling past Williamsburg during Tuesday’s 50th District Boys’ Tournament semifinal action.

The Redhounds (20-8) won their fourth game in a row by delivering a 67-30 win over the Yellow Jackets.

Twelve players scored in the win for Corbin with Ryder Akins’ 19-point scoring effort leading the way. Eli Pietrowski added 10 points while Conner Middleton finished with nine points.

“Excellent couple of days practice and I thought it transitioned to the floor tonight,” Pietrowski said. “Carter (Stewart), Zander (Curry) and Ryder really turned it up defensively for us early — sparked our team.

“Ryder continues to play at a really high level,” he added. “Couple him with Middleton, Lucas (Brittain) and Carter, and I’m very happy with our guard play currently. Zander, Trey (Worley) and Eli continue to put in solid performances for us. Happy to advance to the regional tournament and excited for an opportunity to compete for a district title Friday.”

Williamsburg finishes the season with a 17-14 mark. Henry Bowling led the Yellow Jackets with 12 points.
