CORBIN — Lynn Camp and Pineville hooked up in a classic 51st District battle with the Mountain Lions holding on to secure a 46-44 win during Wednesday’s semifinal action of the 51st District Tournament.
The win allowed the Mountain Lions (20-9) to advance to Friday’s 51st District Tournament title game against Knox Central, but it also secured them a berth into next week’s 13th Region Tournament, which Pineville is host of.
The Mountain Lions were led by Ashton Moser’s 25-point scoring effort while Sawyer Thompson added 14 points.
Lynn Camp (8-20) dug itself a hole early, falling behind 13-4 in the first quarter, but continued to fight back before coming up short in the end.
“This isn’t the way anyone wants to end their season,” Lynn Camp coach Tyler Wagner said. “But all you ask for is a shot and that’s what we had, a shot to win it. Credit to Pineville, they came out and played tough.
“This group is special they have overcame mountains this year and proved a lot of people wrong,” he added. “They’ve won more games than anyone thought they would and they’ve got better every single game and never gave up. I think as a coach, that’s all you can ask for. This group of seniors were great to be able to coach. Ethan Burd did a complete 180 this season, and this second half of the season, he was the perfect player. Tate Mills has been a great player for us all year long and couldn’t have asked for more. Ian Agosto did every single thing I asked of this year and he was a great player and even better kid to be around. Jayden Woods, Hunter Messer, Zach Thorpe, and Devin Helton, did everything I asked of them all year and showed up everyday being great teammates that were ready to battle and contributed tons to this program.”
Caleb Woods scored 13 points in the loss while Tate Mills added 12 points. Ethan Burd finished with 10 points while pulling down his 500th career rebound.
