Goals weren’t hard to come by during Monday’s 49th District battle between North Laurel, and Whitley County.
Both teams were searching for their first district win of the season with the Jaguars finally coming away with an impressive 8-5 victory.
Johnny Parra led the Colonels with a game-best four goals while Tanner Broyles and Jaxon Jacobs each scored three goals apiece for North Laurel.
Whitley County (3-3) hung tough and fought back throughout the contest before watching North Laurel (4-2-1) score four unanswered goals to put the game away.
The Colonels scored 19 minutes into the contest with a goal by Johnny Parra while the Jaguars’ Tanner Broyles evened the match at one apiece with 11:35 remaining in the first half. Seth Miller’s goal during the 36th minute gave North Laurel a 2-1 edge at halftime.
Parra tied the game at two apiece a minute into the second half before giving Whitley County a 3-2 lead four minutes later.
Jaxon Jacob’s goal with 18:31 remaining in regulation tied the game at three apiece, but Parra’s fourth goal of the game during the 63rd minute gave the Colonels the lead again at 4-3.
It didn’t take North Laurel long to tie the game at 4-4 as Broyles connected with his second goal by converting a penalty kick during the 66th minute.
Jacob’s’ added a goal less than a minute later while Broyles’ third goal increased the Jaguars’ lead to 6-4 with 11 minutes remaining. Jacobs’ third goal pushed North Laurel’s advantage to 7-4 before Whitley County’s Matthew Sawyers cut his team’s deficit to 7-5 with a goal at the 75th minute.
